Jewelry Inspired by the Bedouin Culture of Israel, an art talk with Ann Gitlis

August 1, 2010
3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Ann Gitlis has been making Bedouin-inspired jewelry for over 40 years. From her own Bedouin wedding to the present day, she aspired to keep the disappearing Bedouin culture alive.

Ann will bring photos, books, and artifacts to illustrate her love of the Bedouins and their influence on her work. "It is the soul of the culture" that is her true inspiration, she says.

Ann has exhibited her one of a kind jewelry in museums throughout the United States and Israel.

Renewing and Celebrating Earth-based Jewish Traditions

Thursday August 26, 7:30 - 8:30PM

Zelig Golden of Wildnerness Torah will speak about how renewing and celebrating our earth-based traditions, including land-based festivals and rites of passage processes, can strengthen individuals in their personal journeys, weave strong fabrics of multi-generational Jewish community, and teach skills necessary to live sustainably in the modern world. Come learn about the next festival, Sukkot on the Farm (September 23-26) or how you can get involved in exciting, new community programs.

At a time when concern for the environment is rapidly growing, and when we are increasingly seeking relevant vehicles for Jewish life, Wilderness Torah awakens and celebrates the earth-based traditions of Judaism and creates experiences aligned with the cycles of nature and the cycles of our lives.
